Koszalin Narrow-Gauge Railway Koszalin Narrow-Gauge Railway

  • Address : ul. Kolejowa 4, Koszalin
The narrow-gauge railway in Koszalin operated from 1897 to 2001, then resumed operations in 2005. It is one of the industrial heritage sites which survived in Koszalin through the efforts and commitment of the local community. Today, the railway and the historic depot are managed by the local Narrow-Gauge Railway Society. The society rebuilt the tracks (for the most part through volunteer work of its members), purchased motor coaches and reopened the line. The narrow-gauge railway runs in the summer season, carrying tourists to Lake Rosnowskie. You can take your bike aboard. The society is also renovating the historical Px48-3091 steam engine which will also service tourist connections. Initially, the railway was a frequently used mode of transport in the region, but eventually lost the passenger traffic and was used mainly for carrying goods and also fuel to the airfield in Zegrze Pomorskie. The last train operated by the Polish State Railways (PKP) went out on September 17th, 2001. Since then, the rolling stock, the facilities and infrastructure gradually deteriorated. Most of the tracks were stolen by scavengers. What was left of the stock and equipment after years of neglect was eventually sold by PKP. In 2005, railway enthusiasts set off on a seemingly impossible quest. They founded a society which secured the remaining railway property and began working on rebuilding the railroads. After 15 years of hard work, the connection to Rosnowo was restored. Interestingly, the waters of Lake Rosnowskie hide the flooded viaduct of the Koszalin narrow-gauge railway. When the artificial reservoir was created, the tracks were relocated to the newly constructed dam. The depot can be visited e.g. during the Long Night of Museums.
