The Amber Palace is without a doubt a tourist gem of our region. Built by the von Kamecke family at the turn of the 19th and 20th century, the palace is shaped like a castle and combines the stylistic elements of Romanticism and Renaissance Revival. In 1921 (or 1935 according to another version of the story), the von Kamecke family erected another building in the vicinity of the Amber Palace. Intended as a wedding present for their son, the new building became known as the White Palace. The Amber Palace is surrounded by a unique, historic park with a pond. Like many other palaces and mansions in the region, it came very close to complete ruin. After World War II, the palace was seized by the state and used for the offices of the local State Agricultural Farm. In later years, it served as a holiday resort and dormitory. In late 1980s, it was almost ruined, but in the early 1990s, the property was purchased by a private investor who took a tremendous effort to carefully restore it. Today, the Amber Palace is a luxury hotel hosting guests from all over the world. You simply have to see it for yourself.
