The stately Gothic Revival building of the General Post Office was built in 1884. One of the most majestic postal buildings in Western and Central Pomerania, it was designed specifically as a post office, hence the carriage house and stables in the courtyard. The post riders operated here until 1911 when mail coaches were replaced by cars, and carriage houses and stables were converted into garages. The eastern wing of the building, added in the years 1906 to 1908, now houses a popular music club. The building has plenty or architectural ornaments and the quality of workmanship is impressive even today. Older citizens of Koszalin can probably remember the wooden revolving doors which were replaced at the end of the 20th century. Everyone in Koszalin recognises the characteristic clock on the Post Office but few people know that it actually has another face, which can be seen from the courtyard.
