The two and a half meter tall statue of St. Otto was erected in Polanów on the occasion of the 700th anniversary of the city's existence. It shows St. Otto, who led evangelization in Pomerania at the request of King Bolesław Krzywousty in the years 1124-25. After completing his mission on the Holy Polanowska Mountain, a chapel with the image of the Mother of God was built. Currently, there is a Franciscan hermitage on the top of the hill, which received the relics of St. Otto. The ceremony of placing the relics in the altar of the chapel was connected with the official unveiling of the saint's monument.
