One of the most interesting historical attractions of the region is the seaplane base in Unieście. Originally a German air force base “Seefliegerhorst Nest”, it has a massive airplane hangar which in 2021 was entered into the register of historical monuments. Between 1937 and 1939, the German 706th Coastal Air Force Squadron was stationed there. Currently, the hangar is being remodelled and will be a part of the new hotel. The base also has a number of barracks and a concrete slipway which was used to move Heinkel He 60 D and Heinkel He 114 seaplanes to and from the water. Today, the slipway is used as the harbour for the water tram from Koszalin to Mielno.
